Island Child - Geno Target

*by - JoshG* (Let me know what you think...) My name is Samuel and I am an islander from a village in Micronesia. I was blessed by the shaman of my village with enhanced physical abilities and greater intelligence than most. He used advanced technology in the form of a staff. This staff scans and genetically modifies any infant set in front of it, giving the infant denser muscles, bones and tougher skin. There were a couple of us who were born in the same month. I was the healthiest of them and so I was chosen to be enhanced. At first I was a bit reluctant about leaving because I didn’t want to be apart from my family. Eventually, I was persuaded to go. When I first got there, I was too shy to talk to anyone until one of the teachers introduced me to one of the kids in my class. He was warm and welcoming and we soon became good friends. At first, everything went well. Two years later, though, an organization found out about my abilities and wanted to use me for study purposes. If they were to clone me and create an army, they would be able to control the world. I became a hunted person. Their first attempt to capture me was when I was 13. It had been a hot day and after playing a game of rugby with my friends, we went for ice cream. I was on my way home and decided to take a short cut through an abandoned part of town. As I was walking, I felt a chill go down my spine. My heightened senses could feel another presence. I stopped for a moment and out of the corner of my eye I saw something flashing and moving towards me quickly. I jumped upwards and sideways to evade the hit, a little too late, and got grazed on my stomach. I was knocked off my feet, but got back up quickly and ran towards the machine. I jumped up and as I came back down on top of it, I punched a fist into the top of it. I managed to put a dent in it, but that was it. Befuddled at how little damage I inflicted, I decided the best thing to do was to pull back and regroup. Not knowing the strength and weaknesses of my opponent had put me at a disadvantage. He (or it) charged at me. That’s when it hit me that because of my dark clothing, he couldn’t spot me. I got up and started running and jumping from wall to wall. With speed on my side, I was able to land attacks quickly and without too much effort. With each jump I did, I got faster and faster. That increased the force of my hits as well. Thinking I had the advantage I started getting cocky and let my guard down. As soon as I did, his outer armor began to peel off. With the outer armor off, he was much lighter. He even had jet boots on that added to his speed. He was able to match my speed now, not to mention his strength and the protection of his armor. He starts running at me, getting ready to attack. I stood my ground, getting ready to meet him head on. Timing it just right, as he got close enough, I launched forward and delivered a mighty upper cut under his chin. He flew backwards and I grabbed his feet and pulled him back to the ground. She saw her opportunity and didn’t waste any time. Pulling out this round object, she threw it at my face which released a gas on contact and I quickly lost consciousness. I awoke some time later in the same spot but she was nowhere to be found. I have a feeling, however, this won’t be the last time I see her. I wrote this story when I was 13 and just wanted to share it here. I hope you guys enjoy it.
