##### Greetings, Hivers! Welcome to a new post. This time I’ll show you a small gallery of illustrations that I’ve made in these last months of the year. These illustrations go together with a personal experience that I’ll tell as a reflection.

##### ¡Saludos, Hivers! Bienvenidos a un nuevo post. En esta oportunidad les mostraré una pequeña galería de ilustraciones que he realizado en estos últimos meses del año. Estas ilustraciones van acompañadas de una experiencia personal que contaré a modo de reflexión.

Creative blocks are those feelings of not being able to think clearly. It’s feeling inefficient due to not being able to proceed with an idea we have in mind. It’s what doesn’t let you continue with what you want to do or achieve and it’s something that’s happened to all of us at some point. If you’re someone who’s constantly going through this sort of situations, I totally feel you. Especially if it happens at those moments when you want to draw but you can’t because of the creative block.

Los bloqueos creativos son aquellas sensaciones de no poder pensar con claridad. Es la ineficiencia de no continuar con una idea que tenemos en mente, es eso que no te permite seguir con aquello que quieres hacer o lograr y que en algún momento nos ha pasado. Si eres de las personas que les suele ocurrir este tipo de situaciones, te comprendo totalmente, sobre todo si te ocurre al momento de querer dibujar y no poder hacer nada por el llamado bloqueo creativo.

In my case, this whole situation was becoming an issue. It’s not that I didn’t want to draw, I wanted to, I’d think of what I wanted to put on a piece of paper, I’d take the pencil to start drawing the first lines and then some thoughts would come to my mind: “It’s not a very original idea”, “Maybe the picture I’m using as reference it’s been used lots of times”, “The outcome isn’t what I expected”. That’s the moment when the block is left behind and the frustration comes. It’s not about thinking you don’t have a good idea; it’s feeling bad when you think that the outcome isn’t nearly as good as expected and that leads to an unfinished work.

En mi caso, toda esta situación se estaba convirtiendo en un problema. No es que no quisiera dibujar, quería hacerlo, pensaba en lo que quería plasmar en un papel, cogía el lápiz para empezar a dibujar las primeras líneas y entonces me venían a la cabeza algunos pensamientos: "No es una idea muy original", "Tal vez la imagen que estoy usando como referencia ya ha sido utilizada muchas veces", "El resultado no es lo que esperaba". Ese es el momento en el que se deja atrás el bloqueo y llega la frustración. No se trata de pensar que no tienes una buena idea, sino de sentirte mal cuando piensas que el resultado no es lo que esperabas y eso te lleva a un trabajo inacabado.

Once you start going through this often, you start losing your will to do anything. It’s even worse when you wake up inspired, thinking that it’ll be different. You pick up a pencil and a sheet of paper, you prepare yourself to face that blank paper, but when you’re about to start, everything happens again. You think it’s an endless cycle… a dead end. There’s no worse feeling to a visual artist than to believe they were never good at art, that maybe what their relatives said was right and maybe they should’ve studied mathematics, but actually that story only exists in their mind.

Una vez que empiezas a pasar por esto a menudo, comienza a perder las ganas de hacer algo. Es aún peor cuando te levantas inspirado, pensando que será diferente. Coges un lápiz y una hoja, te preparas para enfrentarte a ese papel en blanco, pero cuando estás a punto de empezar, todo vuelve a suceder. Crees que es un ciclo interminable... un callejón sin salida. No hay peor sensación para un artista visual que creer que nunca fue bueno en el arte, que tal vez lo que decían sus familiares era cierto y que tal vez debería haber estudiado matemáticas, pero en realidad esa historia sólo existe en su mente.

It is true that to succeed in whatever you like you’ve got practice constantly. “Practice makes perfect” they say, but practicing is hard when demotivation is around the corner, ready to attack at any moment and take away all inspiration. And so, everything that there was, it’s suddenly no more.

Es cierto que para triunfar en lo que te gusta tienes que practicar constantemente. "La práctica hace al maestro" dicen, pero practicar es difícil cuando la desmotivación está a la vuelta de la esquina, lista para atacar en cualquier momento y quitar toda la inspiración. Y así, todo lo que había, de repente ya no existe.

In order to overcome the frustration and creative blocks it’s needed to take a step forward and cross that bridge you don’t dare to cross. Maybe because of what people will say or the way it’ll look. I personally admire those people who achieved something with little talent the most than the people that did the same with a lot of talent.

Para superar la frustración y el bloqueo creativo es necesario dar un paso adelante y cruzar ese puente que no te atreves a cruzar. Tal vez por el qué dirán o por cómo se verá. Personalmente, admiro más a las personas que han conseguido algo con poco talento que a las que han hecho lo mismo con mucho talento

I know many artists wouldn’t think alike, but it comes to think of how many not talented people are famous and how many talented people aren’t. You can think that those untalented people achieved success through unmoral means, but there’s a minority of people who lack talent, but even then, they keep trying over and over again not caring about what others might say, because they’re determined to succeed and that will is bigger than their talent.

Sé que muchos artistas no pensarían igual, pero llega a pensar en cuánta gente sin talento es famosa y cuánta gente con talento no lo es. Puedes ser que esas personas sin talento lograron el éxito por medios poco morales, pero hay una minoría de personas que carecen de talento, pero aun así, siguen intentándolo una y otra vez sin importarles lo que puedan decir los demás, porque están decididos a triunfar y esa voluntad es mayor que su talento.

That’s what it’s about, determination. The wish and will to do what you like; it’s about keep going not caring about the outcome. The most important thing is that you tried and you finished it. No matter if the idea is well developed, the important thing is doing what you can with what you have and feeling the satisfaction of having completed it even if you see things that you’re not 100% happy with. You’ll see that as time goes by, what didn’t let you continue will fade away.

De eso se trata, de la determinación. El deseo y la voluntad de hacer lo que te gusta; se trata de seguir adelante sin que te importe el resultado. Lo más importante es que lo has intentado y lo has terminado. No importa si la idea está bien desarrollada, lo importante es hacer lo que puedes con lo que tienes y sentir la satisfacción de haberlo completado aunque veas cosas con las que no estás 100% contento. Verás que con el paso del tiempo, lo que no te permitió continuar se desvanecerá.

The illustrations that I showed you are an example of what I have told you. In every artwork I can see my effort, my dedication, my time and my determination; I see what I didn’t think I’d achieve. That’s why when I see a post about drawing or painting on Hive, instead of judging the quality of the work, I try to perceive the meaning of the person and the courage they had to show their work to hundreds of people. Because if Hive is good for something, it’s to help you show other people what you love.

Las ilustraciones que te he mostrado son un ejemplo de lo que te he dicho. En cada obra de arte puedo ver mi esfuerzo, mi dedicación, mi tiempo y mi determinación; veo lo que no pensé que lograría. Por eso cuando veo un post sobre dibujo o pintura en Hive, en lugar de juzgar la calidad de la obra, intento percibir la intención de la persona y el valor que tuvo para mostrar su obra a cientos de personas. Porque si algo hace Hive es ayudarte a mostrar a otras personas lo que te gusta.
