Hola comunidad de Hive, aprovechando el ánimo de escritura que me dejo el post pasado en el cual di mi opinión sobre el teléfono negro, decidí no dejar pasar en envión anímico y hablar sobre otra película que vi recientemente y que casi dejo pasar por debajo de la mesa, Lightyear, la cual dio bastante de que hablar desde que se estrenó y que tiene muchas cosas que se pueden resaltar. La película nos cuenta la historia de origen detrás del juguete al que vimos en las películas de Toy Story. # Opinión

En lo personal casi todo lo que venga de Disney y pixar es garantía de que cuando menos, la película me va a hacer pasar un buen rato. Creo que puedo contar con los dedos de una mano (y me sobrarían dedos) las veces que Disney y pixar entregaron una película que me hiciera decir “esto es realmente malo” y en estas contada ocasiones, creo que fue solo cosa mía porque generalmente la película termina siendo un éxito en taquilla y con el público en general.

Personally, almost everything that comes from Disney and Pixar is a guarantee that at the very least, the movie is going to make me have a good time. I think I can count on the fingers of one hand (and I would have fingers to spare) the times Disney and pixar delivered a movie that made me say "this is really bad" and on these rare occasions, I think it was just me because the movie usually ends up being a success at the box office and with the general public.

Lightyear no fue la excepción. Cuando por fin pude ver la película, ya tenía varios días de haberse estrenado, es decir, que yo ya sabía que la película había sido un fracaso tanto en taquilla como en critica, así que ya venía un poco predispuesto, lo cual creo que ayudo a que en lo personal, la película superara mi expectativas.

Lightyear was no exception. When I finally got to see the movie, it was already several days after its release, which means that I already knew that the movie had been a failure both at the box office and by the critic, so I was already a little bit predisposed, which I think helped me personally that the movie exceeded my expectations.

**LO BUENO:** como dije al comienzo la película sigue la fórmula del éxito Disney. Una historia fácil de digerir para los niños y entretenida para los padres. Con personajes bien desarrollados y con humor bastante simple pero que termina funcionando. Como película aislada la disfruté mucho, la odisea de Buzz al tratar de encontrar una forma de regresar a su gente a casa, el sentirse culpable por el hecho de quedar atrapados en el planeta hostil y que cada intento le haga perder años de vida y la oportunidad de vivirla junto a su amiga Alisha Hawthorne. Si bien la película es simple de entender como dije antes, también aborda temas un poco más profundos como la soledad y la necesidad de cargar con todo solos. Son cosas que cuando vemos la película siendo niños podemos pasar por alto, pero que seguramente algunos adultos si notamos y nos sentimos identificados. La película toma inspiración de otras películas de ciencia ficción, como pueden ser Alíen, Star Wars o back to the future. Inclusive, recuerdo que reí al verla al darme cuenta que la película puede ser fácilmente Interestellar para niños😂. >**The good:** As I said at the beginning, the film follows the Disney formula for success. An easy to digest story for children and entertaining for parents. With well-developed characters and humor that is quite simple but ends up working. As a stand alone movie I enjoyed it a lot, Buzz's odyssey as he tries to find a way to get his people home, the guilt of being trapped on the hostile planet and that each attempt causes him to lose years of life and the opportunity to live it with his friend Alisha Hawthorne. While the film is simple to understand as I said before, it also tackles slightly deeper themes such as loneliness and the need to carry everything alone. These are things that when we watch the film as children we may overlook, but that some adults surely do notice and identify with. The movie takes inspiration from other science fiction movies, such as Alien, Star Wars or back to the future. Como dije, todos están bien desarrollados y cada uno cumple bien su función para la trama, todo esto con muchas dosis de risas. En este sentido Disney y Pixar casi siempre. Como dije antes la película por si misma funciona, pero no se siente conexión entre este buzz y el juguete. Pareciera que la historia del buzz que conocimos en las películas de Toy Story fuese otra completamente distinta a la de Lightyear y eso desconecta un poco con la experiencia. La trama de Toy Story 1 se desarrolla en 1995, creo que cuando se ideó a buzz se lo hizo pensando en los astronautas más clásicos. En la película del 95, cosas que resaltan de la personalidad del juguete son su creencia de que puede volar, su laser de muñeca y la relación con el emperador Zurg, cosas que uno pensaría que van a tener peso en la trama de Lightyear, y no es así. Quedan bastante de lado. A ver, que se entienda, teóricamente el Buzz juguete debería tener en su cabeza la trama de Lightyear como la historia de su vida, pero sus acciones dentro de la película parecen como que su historia fuera otra. Y es lógico en 1995 nadie sabía que harían la historia del juguete 27 años más tarde y no es lo mismo lo que era atractivo para los niños en los 90 que en los ahora. Entiendo que la historia deba amoldarse a los tiempos que corren, pero entonces no me la vendan como la historia que Andy vio hace muchos años. Un hecho gracioso respecto a esto es que en Toy Story 2 un juguete de Zurg y uno de Buzz Lightyear se encuentran y parodian el mítico momento que Luke Skywalker y Darth Vader tienen en Star wars. >**The bad:** The film's director Angus MacLane tells us that Lightyear is the movie Andy saw as a kid and the one that made him want to have his buzz Lightyear toy. Yo ya sabía no iban a seguir del todo este argumento en la película Lightyear porque sería muy obvio el plagio, pero… ESTO ES CANON SEÑORES, me explico, en el universo de Toy Story (que aquí es el mundo real) en la mente del Zurg de juguete esa es su historia y en la película de Lightyear ¡SPOILER! Zurg termina siendo el mismo Buzz en el futuro. O sea, no puede ser su padre como dijo en Toy Story 2. ¿Ya enrede todo? Perdón, me emociono y olvido que estoy reseñando una película para niños. La película estuvo envuelta en una polémica y fue un fracaso tanto en taquilla como en critica y mucho de esto (por no decir todo) tiene que ver conque la película no se proyectada en China. EL mercado chino en cuanto a películas es el más grande del mundo. Para que a una película pueda irle bien en general, primero debe gustar en el gigante asiático. Ahora la gran pregunta: ¿Por qué la película no fue proyectada en China? Pues el motivo es porque contiene a una pareja de la comunidad LGBT y un beso entre ellas. Aun hoy este es un tema bastante sensible de abordar porque hay opiniones divididas respecto al tema, y el cine no queda exento de esto. Centrándome netamente en la película, cuando leí la noticia esperé encontrarme con algo completamente distinto a lo que vi. La película nos muestra a la compañera de Buzz una vez cada tantos años entre cada viaje que Buzz hace por el tiempo así se nos muestra de manera resumida la vida de la comandante y su relación con otra mujer. En una de las visitas que Buzz le hace se puede ver un pequeño beso entre ambas debido a su aniversario. La escena es tan breve y tan poco forzada que casi pasa desapercibida.

In one of the visits that Buzz makes to her we can see a small kiss between the two of them because of their anniversary. The scene is so brief and so unforced that it almost goes unnoticed.

No pude evitar preguntarme ¿es este motivo suficiente para cancelar su estreno en todo un país y dar malas críticas sobre la película? Hay personas que alegan que no es algo que los niños deban ver en el cine o que es inclusión forzada y yo debo discrepar en ambos puntos. Primero, tenemos la mala costumbre de subestimar a los niños, que son más listos de lo que pensamos y seguro entienden el mundo mucho mejor que nosotros los adultos. Puedes llevar a tu hijo a ver esta película y seguro ni le inmutara la escena. Y si no es el caso, es tan sencillo como explicarle lo que es un beso o una muestra de amor. No enseñar a las personas distintas, no hace que dejen de existir, tarde o temprano los niños deben conocer y aceptar el mundo que les rodea. Segundo, respecto a si es inclusión forzada, desde hace algunos años la industria del cine ha notado la poca y casi nula inclusión que le han dado a las minorías y a las comunidades marginadas y han querido darles más cabida y protagonismo en el cine actual, lo cual es un gran acierto pero que muchas veces no han sabido hacer. Puedo entender como inclusión forzada cuando un personaje que ya existe sufre un cambio de raza y/u orientación sexual sin que esto tenga un verdadero aporte para la trama. Las comunidades ignoradas y marginadas deben ser incluidas en el cine sí, pero con historias y personajes propios. En este sentido creo que Disney tiene un acierto en Lightyear, nos entregan aunque sea por breve periodo de tiempo a un personaje femenino fuerte, de color y abiertamente gay sin que esto desentone ni sea el centro de la trama. Se pueden crear personajes de estos entrañables sin tener que cambiar lo que ya existe. Aparte de esto la película lo hace de manera sutil y sin que se sienta forzado. Si la película debe fracasar, entonces que sea por mérito propio y no por tratar de enseñar las el mundo tal cual es.

Ignored and marginalized communities should be included in movies yes, but with stories and characters of their own. In this sense, I think Disney is right in Lightyear, they give us a strong female character, of color and openly gay, even if only for a short period of time, without this being the center of the plot. If the film must fail, then let it fail on its own merit and not by trying to show the world as it is.

Lightyear es una buena película, sin grandes pretensiones. Cumple con su función de entretener sin intentar ser una gran obra. Creo que es de esas películas que podría repetir pero solo una vez.
