I recently was chatting with a friend who asked me why he should have LTC in his portfolio. I went through my mind what I found attractive about the cryptocurrency and wanted to share it with fellow 'steemers'. Here is a short bullet point list that I consider compelling reasons for keeping this crypto currency as a stable part of your portfolio.

LTC is the silver to bitcoin gold. This is the silver/gold pair in 'cryptosphere'
It is stable. Its been around since early 2011 and has held its own well.
The creator of the currency - Charlie Lee was till summer 2017 the director of engineering at Coinbase - one of the largest and most secure cryptocurrency exchanges and so has very solid technical background in the crypto space. He's since left to fully devote himself to advancing Litecoin.
Active development team - an essential ingredient for long sustainability of any crypto currency.
LTC was one of the very early adopters of Segwit and the successful integration was one of the catalyst for adoption of Segwit to go live on Bitcoin.
They have cheaper transaction cost and faster processing times than bitcoin
It also has a deflationary model like bitcoin which gives it advantages as a store of value just like Bitcoin. Currently 53 million coins out of 84 million has been minted so far.
They have integrated the lightening network and working on various integration technologies with Bitcoin like side chains, on chain atomic swaps etc. providing immediate immediate translation/integration with Bitcoin and potentially other currencies.
Price is 100 times cheaper than BTC (even though you can buy fractional BTC)
It has come down a lot from its recent highs of $97 and has a good ways to go to reach all time highs.
It has a higher beta than BTC. So percentage wise it will go higher than BTC when crypto currencies are bullish.

Summary - LTC has a lot going for it. As I write this, LTC has just gone up close to 20% last 48 hours.
